In a stand-up comedy class you’ll learn how to find your unique voice while creating and delivering solo material with an improvisational approach. Students will strengthen their writing and workshop their own material. Learn how to experiment, get outside your comfort zone, and discover your unique style.
Take a Stand-Up, Storytelling, And Public Speaking Classes Class
Ready to take your stand-up to the next level? Second City’s Stand-Up Lab gives you the space and support to sharpen your joke writing and performance skills. In every class, you’ll have dedicated time to write and test your jokes, while receiving personalized feedback and assignments based on your strengths and goals.
Each teacher brings a unique perspective to the Stand-Up Lab, so you’re welcome to return again and again to develop new material and gain different insights. You’ll also have the chance to test your material at Second City’s open mics, and by the end of the term, you’ll perform in a showcase to put all your hard work on display.
Prerequisite: You must have completed Stand-Up 1 or have one year of stand-up experience.
This class will be taught by a female LGBTQIA+ Second City faculty member and will create an environment where emerging women and gender-diverse stand-up comics have their voices heard, supported & developed. The Second City Training Center is committed to building a community where artists can come together to learn safely and play freely.
Are you interested in taking a stand up class, but you’re not quite sure if it’s right for you? Give it a test drive! Our weekly drop-in stand-up class for beginners is open to everyone. It’s a great opportunity to practice, have some fun, and meet new people!
Learn the fundamentals of writing and performing stand-up comedy in a space dedicated to underrepresented genders. This includes students who are cis women, trans women, trans men, non-binary people, and those who are otherwise marginalized on the basis of gender.
In Stand Up 1 you will develop yourself as a solo comedic performer by writing and workshopping your own material. By understanding how earlier stand-up comics evolved, you will experiment outside your comfort zone and experiment as you work to discover your own unique style. Students will have regular writing assignments during the term. Class culminates in a final performance.
