Jimmy Tomasello, aka Jimmy T., has taught music to thousands of students over the years at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music where he currently manages the Guitar, Bass, Songwriting and Ensemble Programs. He’s versed in a variety of genres working with students of all ages. Jimmy continues to be treated for “funkaholicism”. His childhood revolved around James Brown, Motown, Sly Stone and others. He performed for years with Chicago’s Groovepushers. In a former incarnation, he was involved with improv and theatre work with David Shepherd, Del Close, Nate Herman, Charna Helpern and other luminaries of the genre. Over the years he has coached Paul Dinello and members of Baby Wants Candy. Rumor has it Jimmy taught a class on Elvis Costello tunes attended by an unknown Tina Fey. In his class at SCTC he hopes to provide a handful of chords and rhythms along with a functional understanding of music theory. With these tools, there’s no reason one can’t start writing songs. As Tomasello says, “Just listen to half the junk that’s out there.”
