Lifelong Chicagoan and diehard Bears fan Katie Rich studied at Northwestern University before traveling with Second City Theatricals and The Second City Touring Company for three years. In 2011, Rich co-wrote and performed in the 99th Mainstage revue, the critically acclaimed and much beloved South Side of Heaven, with Edgar Blackmon, Holly Laurent, Timothy Edward Mason, Sam Richardson, and Tim Robinson. The show, directed by e.t.c. vet Billy Bungeroth, won rave reviews and two Joseph Jefferson nominations.
In the 101st Mainstage revue, Let Them Eat Chaos, director Matt Hovde again partnered Rich with Laurent and Blackmon, this time adding Tawny Newsome, Steve Waltien, and Ross Bryant to the cast.
In 2013, Katie Rich was hired as a writer for SNL’s “Weekend Update.” Rich continues to both improvise around the country and write for SNL, in addition to writing for the 2015 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, hosted by her former Second City understudy, Cecily Strong, and the ESPY Awards.
“I went to Second City for the first time when I was 13 and saw the Mainstage revue Truth, Justice, or the American Way. The cast included Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, Jackie Hoffman—I didn’t really know what I was watching, but I knew whatever it was, that’s what I wanted to do forever and ever, amen.” -Katie Rich
