Chris Redd was born in St. Louis and moved to Chicago suburb Naperville when he was 8. After giving up a future as a rapper, he turned to comedy. Redd toured the United States and Europe with The Second City Touring Company and was an understudy for the Mainstage. He also co-wrote Second City’s lauded 2014 collaboration with Hubbard Street Dance Company, The Art of Falling.
After leaving The Second City, Redd had roles on TV series Chicago PD and Empire before landing the breakout role of “Hunter the Hungry” in The Lonely Island’s movie Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which also featured Second City alum Tim Meadows and was produced by Harold Ramis FIlm School advisory board member Judd Apatow.
Redd’s Comedy Central half-hour special aired in September, 2017, and he co-starred with Kathy Bates in the first season of Chuck Lorre’s Netflix original series Disjointed as Steven “Dank” Dankerson, one of the fictional marijuana dispensary’s best customers.
In September of 2017, Redd made his debut on SNL’s 43rd season premiere, where he has appeared in sketches with guests Chance the Rapper, Miley Cyrus, and Tiffany Haddish.
