An Open Letter To All You Anti-Ghostbusterers

by The Second City - Feb 05, 2015

With the casting announcement of the upcoming all-female version of the 1984 film “Ghostbusters,” there has been a flurry of mixed responses from the trolls of the online world. While I am admittedly a fan of the original film myself, I feel the need to address many of the misguided reactions that have oozed out of the sewer of the internet.

WOMEN CAN’T FIGHT GHOSTS

Guess what? Men can’t fight ghosts, either. Science has yet to show us that such as thing as ghosts truly exist, so that means that either a) they don’t; or b) they do, but we know so little about them that fighting ghosts is not a top priority.

IT’LL NEVER LIVE UP TO THE ORIGINAL

If you’re expecting any Hollywood remake to live up to the original, then I’d love to sell you some magic beans called “Total Recall” and “Robocop.”

IT’S AN INSULT TO MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

If your sense of nostalgia is that important to you, go buy the Blue-ray version of the original, lock yourself in a room for the next 30 years, and keep your opinions to yourself.

WOMEN AREN’T AS FUNNY

Go step into a room with even one female comedian and try saying that out loud. Let me know how it goes.

THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ORIGINAL

Sure… so long as you don’t count Bill Murray’s repeated sexual harassment of every female character, Dan Aykroyd’s chain smoking around nuclear technology, Ernie Hudson playing the token ethnic member of the group (and the only one without a scientific degree), or that one of the villains in the movie is an “Environmentalist.”

Barring all of that, there’s nothing wrong with it at all.

HOW COULD DAN AYKROYD SIGN OFF ON THIS!?!

Have you ever tried Dan Aykroyd Wines? If so, then you already know.
